Funded by NSW Ministry of Health (HNELHD), supported by Commonwealth Department of Health.
WHOS Newcastle day program is a 6 week rotating day program for men and women on opioid substitution treatment (OST).
Participants attend a day program with a combination of group work and case management (breakfast and lunch provided on group work days)
The case management portion of the program assists participants in;
- identifying goals and providing assistance in achieving them (e.g. health, housing, medical, parenting, court etc.)
- advocate and assist clients where practical in providing services in assisting with other stakeholders and welfare agencies
- Assisting clients who need support with accessing other services in order to reduce their substance use and related problems.
Group work is based on the ACT (Acceptance, Comitment Therapy) framework with a focus on harm reduction
