Welcome to WHOS

WHOS has supported people through recovery from alcohol and other drug dependence for over fifty years. Our programs run across New South Wales and Queensland, in residential communities and day programs.

This overview introduces the Therapeutic Community model at the heart of everything we do — and the fourteen programs you can enter.

Opioid treatment

Stay on or come off opioid treatment

If you receive methadone, buprenorphine or Buvidal, WHOS offers residential support for staying on or coming off prescribed opioid treatment.

Buvidal is a long-acting injectable formulation of buprenorphine. These programs use a modified Therapeutic Community approach, with clinical support alongside the community.

Gender specific

Programs for women, programs for men

Some people recover better in a community of their own gender. New Beginnings TC is a residential program for women in Sydney (Lilyfield); Gunyah TC is a residential program for men.

Both are drug-free Therapeutic Communities, with the daily structure, group work and peer support that model is built on.

Regional services

Southern NSW, Hunter Valley & Sunshine Coast

Recovery away from the pressures of the city. Hunter Valley TC in Cessnock and Najara TC on the Sunshine Coast are mixed-gender residential communities set in quiet regional surroundings.

Mandala House TC in Goulburn extends the same model into Southern New South Wales.

Day programs

Support without leaving home

Not everyone can step away from work, study or family. Our day programs give you structured group support while you keep living at home.

Day Programs run in Penrith, Lilyfield, Hawkesbury, Newcastle, Nambour and Southern New South Wales.
